Baseball Drops Two Games on the Road at Charleston

Charleston, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team fell on the road Monday night to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles.

The Pioneers fell in game one to the Golden Eagles, 12-4. GSC finished with nine hits however they committed seven errors in the loss. UC recorded 12 hits in the contest.

Glenville State struck first in the first as Tyler Phillips singled to right field scoring Cater Boswell as they led 1-0.

Charleston then took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first as they scored three runs on two hits.

The Pioneers pulled within one run in the second inning when Colby Werry grounded out but not before Michael Ferguson scored making it, 3-2.

The Golden Eagles managed to add to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring four runs on three hits as they led 7-2.

In the fifth, Carter Boswell homered as he pulled the Pioneers within four runs, 7-3.

UC would add another two runs in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs on four hits as they held a six run lead over GSC, 9-3.

Glenville State's last run of the contest came in the sixth. Hunter Brown reached base on a fielder's choice as Andrue Hughart scored making it 9-4.

UC added three runs in the sixth as they took the first contest, 12-4.

Tyler Phillips went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Colby Werry, Carter Boswell, and Hunter Brown each had an RBI.

Jesse Weathers pitched 4.2 innings allowing nine runs on 10 hits with two strike outs.

Game two saw the Pioneers tally seven hits. However they came up short as they fell 5-2. The Golden Eagles also recorded seven hits in the game.

GSC took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Tyler Phillips reached base on a fielder's choice as Carter Boswell scored.

UC tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first as the Golden Eagles scored one run on one hit.

The Pioneers then broke the tie in the second to go up 2-1 as Andrue Hughart homered.

The Golden Eagles then took a one run lead in the fourth scoring two runs on two hits as the Pioneers trailed 3-2.

UC then added two more runs in the fifth as they went on to complete the four game sweep of the Pioneers winning, 5-2.

Tyler Phillips and Andrue Hughart each recorded an RBI.

Jose Rodriguez pitched 5.0 innings allowing five runs on seven hits with two strike outs.

Glenville State (10-26, 5-15) will return to action this coming Friday, April 19th as they host Concord University at the Sue Morris Sports Complex at 1 p.m.
