Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball squad split a doubleheader on Monday with the Concord University Mountain Lions.
Concord struck first in game one in the second inning as they took a 3-0 lead off of three hits.
Tyler Phillips got GSC on the board in the bottom of the second when he hit a solo home run to left field as GSC trailed 3-1.
The Mountain Lions later added two more runs in the sixth and three more runs in the seventh as they led 8-1.
The Pioneers added two runs in the bottom of the seventh but ended up falling to the Mountain Lions 8-3.
Glenville State finished with eight hits while Concord tallied 12 hits.
Tre'von Smith went 2-for-4 while
Tyler Phillips also went 2-for-4 and an RBI.
Jesse Weathers pitched 5.0 innings allowing five runs on seven hits with three strike outs.
Game two saw
Tre'von Smith put GSC up 1-0 in the first as he doubled to right field scoring
Carter Boswell.
The Pioneers then added another run in the second as
Zach Bacon hit an RBI single to left scoring
Andrue Hughart as they led 2-0.
Concord cut the Pioneers lead to one run in the fourth as they scored a run off of one hit making it 2-1.
GSC answered in the bottom of the fourth as
Logan Henderson and
Zach Bacon both scored as they went up 4-1. In the fifth GSC's
Michael Ferguson singled scoring
Shane Talvacchio as the Pioneers now led 5-1.
The Pioneers last run came in the sixth inning as
Carter Boswell hit an RBI double to left center scoring
Zach Bacon as the Pioneers defeated the Mountain Lions 6-1.
Glenville State totaled 11 hits while Concord finished with four hits.
Carter Boswell went 2-for-4 with an RBI while
Tre'von Smith went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Jose Rodriguez earned his third win on the mound as he went the entire game allowing one run on four hits with four strike outs.
Glenville State (12-28, 7-17) will return to action this Saturday, April 27
th at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State.
