Institute, W.Va. – On Saturday afternoon the Glenville State Pioneer baseball team dropped a doubleheader on the road at West Virginia State University.
Game one saw the Yellow Jackets rack up 17 hits while the Pioneers finished with five hits as GSC fell to WVSU 17-3.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to 4-0 lead as they scored three runs in the first and one run in the second.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the third when Logan Henderson hit a solo home run to left field as they trailed 4-1.
West Virginia State responded in the bottom of the third as they scored four more runs on four hits as they now led 8-1.
In the fourth, WVSU added two more runs holding a nine run lead over GSC 10-1.
Glenville State added two runs in the fifth as they pulled within seven runs 10-3. Logan Henderson got the scoring started as he reached base on an error which scored Ryan Colaw. Colby Werry hit a sacrifice fly to left field as Michael Ferguson scored.
However, WVSU had a huge seventh inning scoring seven runs as they took the first matchup 17-3.
Ryan Colaw went 2-for-3 while Logan Henderson finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI's.
Bray Wilkinson pitched 0.1 innings allowing three runs on two hits. Chase Swain pitched 4.2 innings allowing 11 runs on 12 hits with four strike outs.
Game two would be a pitching duel as the Pioneers fell 1-0.
Glenville State tallied three hits and committed two errors while West Virginia State recorded six hits and committed one error.
The only run in the contest came in the fourth on a single by the Yellow Jackets as they eventually went on and claimed the 1-0 win.
Tre'von Smith, Tyler Phillips, and Ryan Colaw all had a hit in the contest.
Andrue Hughart pitched the entire game allowing one run on six hits with six strike outs.
Glenville State (12-30, 7-19) will return to action tomorrow Sunday, April 28th when they take on the Yellow Jackets in another doubleheader at 1 p.m.
