Glenville, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneer baseball team dropped a divisional doubleheader to the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise on Saturday at the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
The Pioneers had five hits while committing two errors as they fell in game one 5-1. The Cavaliers finished the first contest with nine hits.
The Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nevertheless, the Pioneers answered in the bottom of the first as
Logan Henderson singled to the shortstop as
Tyler Phillips scored tying it up at 1-1.
But that's all the scoring the Pioneers could put up as UVa-Wise added a run in the third and three runs in the seventh as they took game one from GSC, 5-1.
Logan Henderson went 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Tyler Phillips went 1-for-2.
Jesse Weathers pitched 6.1 innings giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out four batters.
Game two also went to the Cavaliers as they defeated the Pioneers 6-4. The Cavaliers tallied 10 hits while the Pioneers finished with six hits.
Glenville State took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Logan Henderson provided the scoring for GSC as he hit a single up the middle of the infield scoring
Tre'von Smith and
Jordan Brown.
UVa-Wise pulled within one run in the third as they scored one run making it, 2-1.
But GSC responded in the bottom of the third as
Tre'von Smith hit his eighth home run of the season which also scored
Carter Boswell as the Pioneers now led, 4-1.
However, the Cavaliers tied it up in the fifth as they scored three runs on three hits as we were knotted at 4-4.
UVa-Wise then took their first lead in the seventh as they scored two runs and went on to take game two from the Pioneers, 6-4.
Tre'von Smith went 3-for-4 with a two run home run while
Logan Henderson went 1-for-2 with two RBI's.
Andrue Hughart fell to 1-4 overall on the mound as he gave up two runs on three hits with two strike outs.
Glenville State (8-21, 4-10) will return to the diamond tomorrow Sunday, April 7
th as they host the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise in game three and four of the series. Game three starts at 1 p.m.
