Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team split a doubleheader with the Cavaliers of UVa-Wise on Sunday afternoon.
Game one went to the Pioneers despite seeing the Cavaliers out hitting GSC five to three. UVa-Wise also committed two errors in the contest.
Both teams went scoreless up until the fifth inning.
Zach Bacon put the Pioneers up for good as he smacked a two run home run scoring
Andrue Hughart as the GSC won 2-0.
Zach Bacon went 1-for-1 with two RBI's while
Andrue Hughart went 1-for-2.
Chase Swain, who pitched the entire game, gave up five hits while striking out five batters as he held the Cavaliers scoreless.
Game two however would belong to the Cavaliers. UVa-Wise finished with six hits while scoring 13 runs as they defeated GSC, 13-1.
The Pioneers recorded four hits while committing four errors.
The game would go scoreless until the third as UVa-Wise went up 1-0.
The Cavaliers then poured it on in the fourth, fifth, and sixth as they scored a total of 11 runs in those innings combined. Glenville State's lone run came in the sixth inning when
Logan Henderson singled to left field scoring
Carter Boswell but GSC ended up falling, 13-1.
Carter Boswell went 1-for-3 while
Logan Henderson went 1-for-3 with the lone RBI.
Jacob Williams pitched 3.2 innings allowing four runs on three hits with three strike outs.
Glenville State (9-22, 5-11) will return to action on Thursday, April 11
th when they host Salem University in a single nine inning game at 6 p.m.
