Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Day One of Edinboro Tournament

Glenville, W.Va – The Glenville State Lady Pioneers went 1-1 on day one of the Edinboro Tournament to start the 2019 season.

Game one of the day saw the Lady Pioneers fall in five sets to Lock Haven University (27-25, 25-23, 27-25, 25-20, and 15-10).

GSC (0-1) had a total of 51 kills in the game while pledging 22 errors to Lock Haven (1-0), where they had 64 kills while committing 36 errors.

GSC fell in the first two sets, playing in back and forth matches losing 27-25, and 25-23. The Lady Pioneers then answered backing claiming the third and fourth set 27-25 and 25-20 where the series was tied up at 2-2. The Eagles would then take a hold of the fifth and final set pushing a 15-10 set victory.

Karlei Shaver started her career to lead the Lady Pioneers with a dominant 21 kills and 17 digs.

Kylie Williams the libero and Madison Shepherd captured 21 digs each.

Skylar Mace continued to build on the Pioneers offensive with 15 kills, where as Lindsay Winkler led the Pioneers in assists with 39.

Game two, Glenville State defeated Salem University 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, and 25-20).

The Lady Pioneers (1-1) tallied 43 kills in the contest on 92 attacks while the Tigers (0-2) recorded 19 kills on 76 attacks.

Skylar Mace led GSC in kills with 17 while Karlei Shaver finished with 16. Sophie Shifferly had a team high 36 assists.

Karlie Shaver also had five service aces in the game. Sophie Shifferly and Karlei Shaver each recorded 11 digs.

The Lady Pioneers will be back in action tomorrow Saturday, September 7th facing MSU Moorehead at 9 am and tournament host Edinboro University at 12pm.
