Baseball Downs Clarion in Game Two of Weekend

Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer baseball team racked up 11 hits while tallying two home runs on Sunday afternoon as they defeated Clarion, 5-2.

Mathew Mangum went 2-for-4 while Tyler Philips finished the game 1-for-2 with two RBI's and solo home run. Tre'von Smith went 1-for-4 with a solo homer while John Peloro and Shane Talvacchio each recorded an RBI.
 
Jesse Weathers picked up his second win on the mound pitching 7.0 innings allowing four hits, two runs, with six strike outs. Jose Rodriguez earned the save as he went 2.0 inning giving up two hits and four strike outs.
 
How It Happened
 
Both teams would go scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Pioneers posted three runs. The scoring would being as Devante Rose got on base with a single then Tyler Phillips helped Rose cross the plate as Clarion made an error as they went up 1-0. Then later in the third, John Peloro singled to left scoring Mathew Magnum and then Tyler Phillips scored as Shane Talcacchio singled as GSC led 3-0.
 
Clarion responded in the top of the fourth as Thomas Lavin hit a solo homer to left field as they pulled within two runs, 3-1.
 
Tyler Phillips added to GSC's led in the bottom of the fifth as he drilled a solo home run to right field as they now led 4-1.
 
However, Clarion again answered in the sixth inning as they scored off of a double as they made it 4-2.
 
Tre'von Smith then went yard to right field as GSC defeated Clarion 5-2.

Next up for the Pioneers (7-3) is Mansfield University this Monday, March 2nd at 12 p.m. from the Sue Morris Sports Complex.
