Glenville, W.Va. – After a long Covid-19 halt, GSC hoops are set to open the 2020-21 season at West Virginia State against the Yellow Jackets, Thursday January 7 at 7:30pm.

The Pioneers concluded their 2019-20 season with a 14-15 overall and 11-11 MEC conference record. GSC was also tabbed seventh in the 2020-21 MEC Preseason Poll, collecting 57 points.
Looking to finish in in the top half of the league again this season, the Pioneers ended their 2019-20 season in the MEC quarterfinals. Coach
Justin Caldwell enters his third season on the sidelines for Pioneers. GSC has nine newcomers, who he expects will create a large impact on the court.
The Yellow Jackets was tabbed in the fourth slot with 93 points, finished the season 19-10 and 13-9 in league play. Their season ended last year in the semifinals of the MEC conference tournament. A trio of players who earned All-MEC honors a season ago, Glen Abram (first-team), Anthony Pittman (second-team) and Jeremiah Moore (honorable mention), leads WVSU.
Pioneer Highlights
The Pioneers maintain two significant returners,
Hegel Augustine and
Seth Fallon. Senior
Hegel Augustine was top 15 in the conference in 2019-20, in steals with 47 total while averaging 16 points a night and 6.6 rebounds.
Seth Fallon, a sophomore out of Parkersburg, W.Va. held a significant role as a freshman appearing in all 28 games. As a freshman, Fallon tallied 111 total points shooting 36% from the floor.
Newcomer and junior transfer from Palm Beach State College,
Nick Edwards averaged 15.6 points last season and shot 35.2% from behind the arc.
John Williams last played at Barton Community College; also, a junior transfer appeared in 33 total games totaled 284 points, with 28 steals and 14 blocks.
Coming Up
The Pioneers will host their home opener, Sunday January 10 at 4:00pm in the Waco Center against University of Charleston. At this time a no spectator policy will be followed at each of the 12 Mountain East Conference institutions. The league's Board of Directors will evaluate the no spectator policy no earlier than January 19, 2021.
