GLENVILLE – Coach
Keven John's Glenville Volleyball team put together two of their best sets of the season Friday night against West Liberty, but could not overcome the strong Hilltopper squad, losing 17-25, 22-25, 11-25.
Glenville led the first two sets well into each frame. In the initial set of the evening, they vaulted to an early 11-6 lead, and still had it close at 14-16. West Liberty closed strong with a 9-3 run to close the issue. GSC bounced back to produce a strong second set as well, leading at several points throughout. They had it tight late at 21-23 and 22-24, but they could not tie the match. Up 2-0, West Liberty finished strong taking the final set 25-11.
Offensively,
Karlei Shaver delivered 10 kills,
Skylar Mace eight, and
Taylin Johnson six. Setter Sarah Grainger registered 27 assists, and Mace a team-high three blocks.
Lindsay Winkler had a team-high 18 digs, with
Sarah Mazzaferro scoring a pair of service aces.
West Liberty improves to 12-10 with the victory, and 3-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville falls to 2-10 overall, and 0-6 in the MEC.
Glenville remains at home tomorrow, hosting the Wheeling Cardinals of legendary head coach Christy Benner, who has over 600 career wins and a National Title. This season, the Cardinals are 15-4, and 6-0 in the MEC.
