GLENVILLE – Perennial champion Wheeling came to town Saturday morning, and Glenville's volleyball squad gave them a strong first set of competition. Wheeling rebounded however to win the match; 25-16, 25-11, 25-4.
Glenville opened the match strong, jumping out to an early 7-4 lead, prompting a quick timeout from legendary Cardinal head coach Christy Benner. GSC battled throughout the set, but would bow 25-16. Throughout the second set, Coach
Keven John's squad would show glimpses of play, but Wheeling closed strong to win the set 25-11. The Cardinals dominated the third set 25-4.
Karlei Shaver and
Skylar Mace led Glenville with seven and six kills respectively. Sarah Grainger posted 14 assists, and Mace a team-high two service aces. Libero
Lindsay Winkler registered nine digs and Shaver six.
Wheeling improves to 16-4 overall, and 7-0 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville falls to 2-11 overall, and 0-7 in the MEC.
Glenville heads back on the road Tuesday, playing at Frostburg State. First serve is scheduled for 7:00.
