GLENVILLE – Coach
Keven John's Glenville State College Volleyball team battled the strong Fairmont squad through a tightly contested first set Friday night, but eventually fell to the Falcons in straight sets; 25-22, 25-11, 25-13. The contest was a part of GSC's Homecoming Weekend festivities.
Glenville jumped out to some early leads in the first set, but even after Fairmont rebounded for the advantage, the young Lady Pioneer squad pushed the issue until the final points. Moving onto the final two sets, Fairmont utilized some strong finishes to hold off a spirited GSC effort.
Skylar Mace was the primary closer for the Lady Pioneers, recording nine kills, and a team-high two service aces.
Karlei Shaver complemented her with six kills and eight digs. Setter Sarah Grainger registered 14 assists, while libero
Lindsay Winkler posted a team-high 11 digs.
Fairmont improves to 17-6 with the win, and 7-2 in the Mountain East Conference. Glenville falls to 2-13 overall, and 0-9 in the league.
John's team is back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to Davis & Elkins.
