Buckhannon, W.Va – Glenville State's volleyball team produced several exciting moments Tuesday night, including a set victory. But in the end Coach
Keven John's Lady Pioneers were unable to survive a strong finish from West Virginia Wesleyan, losing three sets to one.
Coach Nancy Wheeler's home-standing Bobcats came out strong and took the first set 25-15. Glenville answered with an energetic second set, producing a set 25-18 victory. Unfortunately, they could not keep the momentum as Wesleyan scored the first seven points of the third set and went on to win the set 25-11. The fourth set was close throughout, but in the end the Bobcats prevailed 25-20 to close the match.
Karlei Shaver led the Pioneers with 10 kills, followed by
Sarah Mazzaferro and
Skylar Mace with six apiece. Mace and Shaver also led the team in blocks with four and two respectively. Setter
Julia King posted team highs of 13 assists and three service aces. Mazzaferro also recorded 10 digs, while King, Shaver, and
Hannah McKown all recorded eight.
Glenville falls to 1-7 overall, and 0-3 in Mountain East play. Wesleyan improves to 2-11, and 2-1 in the MEC.
Glenville returns to action tomorrow night at home against Salem University in a non-league match. First serve is scheduled for 7:00pm in the Waco Center.
