Pioneer Men's Basketball Welcomes University of Charleston

GLENVILLE – Glenville and Charleston entered the 2021-22 basketball season as two highly touted programs in the Mountain East Conference. The two programs combined for a 23-7 record in the COVID-shortened 2021 campaign, with each school making the semifinals of the MEC Tournament. They will meet each other on Tuesday afternoon in a critical early season league match-up.

There is also familiarity between the two programs, as the Pioneers are coached by former GSC star Justin Caldwell and UC by former GSC head coach Dwayne Osborne. Last season, the team's played only once, an early season 72-70 victory by the Pioneers in the Waco Center.

Charleston has started their season off at 3-1, with victories over St. Augustine, Elizabeth City State, and Concord in their MEC opener last Saturday. Their only loss was to a strong California University of Pennsylvania squad.

Glenville has opened 1-1, defeating St. Augustine and like UC, losing their only game to California, PA as well.

All-American John Williams Jr. has again led the team's offense, scoring at a 27.5 points per game clip so far. Point guard Nick Edwards is averaging 13.5 ppg, and has recorded a team-high nine assists.

Tip-off is set for 4:00 on the Waco Center's McPherson Court.
