GLENVILLE – Glenville State held serve Monday afternoon, defeating Fairmont at home on Monday in Mountain East Conference Women's Basketball action. The Lady Pioneers won in convincing fashion, 110-84. Glenville entered the game ranked #8 in the nation, and #2 in the region. Fairmont was 7
th in the region.
Glenville Vaulted to a 29-13 lead at the first quarter break, and never looked back. They extended the lead to 59-32 at the half, and pushed the margin to over 30+ in the third quarter. GSC put four players in double figures, and 11 different player found the scoring column.
Re'Shawna Stone led the way for GSC, scoring 24 points and dishing out four assists. She was complemented by
Dazha Congleton with 20, Zakyah Winfield 15, and
Taychaun Hubbard 10. Winfield posted a team-high 10 rebounds, followed by Hubbard with seven. Winfield also recorded a team-high four steals.
GSC led in team rebounding 51-30. The Lady Pioneers shot 42-of-80 from the field (52.5%), including 10-28 from three-point range (35.7%). They improved this game from the free throw line, going 16-of-21 (76.1%). They held FSU to a 32-of-72 day from the field (44.4%).
Jalen Gibbs led FSU with 25 points, while Alyssa DeAngelo and Bre Wilson each tallied 12.
Glenville improves to 9-0 overall, and 5-0 in the MEC. Fairmont falls to 7-3 overall, 5-1 in the league.
