Glenville, W.Va. – After the Blue and White's season was cut short a year ago, Pioneer Softball is getting ready to retake the field after a long pause. Glenville State will open their season at home as they are set to host Hillsdale College, University of Findlay and Tiffin University in a five game series, Friday February 26-28 at the Sue Morris Complex.

Pioneer, Charger, Oilers & Dragon Files
A season ago, prior to the cancelation of spring competition the Blue and White held a 9-11 record finishing out their season at the Spring Softball Tournament in Clermont, Florida. There, GSC picked up five victories against Felician, Cederville, Holy Family, American International and Quincy College.
The Pioneers also picked up a new coaching staff with Head Coach
Sara Scoone and Graduate Assistant
Tori Pierucci as they have high hopes for the Blue and White's upcoming season.
Hillsdale College enters the weekend starting with a 3-6 record after beginning their season February 13
th against West Florida University. The Chargers picked up three wins against West Florida, Lewis and Ashland University. As a team the HDC hits .220 behind the plate with senior
Dana Weidinger holding a 2.63 ERA.
University of Findlay also holds two victories under their belt in the 2021 season, sitting 2-4 on the year. On a four game losing streak the Oilers maintain a .270 team batting average with freshman Emma Bond hitting .462 at the plate and senior Megan Fisher tallying seven hits and six runs. In the last Pioneer and Oiler encounter, UF picked up a 3-0 win over the Blue and White last season in Clermont.
Tiffin University sits 0-2 as five of their games have been canceled prior to traveling to Glenville State. The Dragons fell to Carson-Newman in five innings each picking up a total of ten hits. In the Pioneers and Dragons last match up (2017) the Blue and White fell 12-1.

Glenville State returns 14 players from their 2020 roster with seniors
Celina Maberto,
Mackenzie Martinelli,
Jessica Williams and
Catherine Pelfrey.
Karra Smith, redshirt sophomore out of Harpers Ferry, WV picked up 19 hits tallying 10 RBIs and holding a .302 average behind the plate a season ago.
Senior Martinelli closely followed behind with 17 hits and a tied team high three homeruns last season. Pelfrey tallied 11 runs last season off 14 hits with a .333 on base percentage.
Defensivly,
Jessica Williams tallied 97 putouts from first base holding a .990 fielding percentage.
From behind the mound
Celina Maberto picked up two wins while striking out 12 and holding a 4.85 ERA.
Ashley Fridley picked up a win against Cederville though giving up 14 runs in the half season.
