Glenville, W.Va. – Pioneer Volleyball (0-6) in double-header falls against the Senators of Davis and Elkins College (6-1) after an eventful week.

How it Happened
Game One
Set One:
Davis and Elkins started the day on a 4-0 run against GSC, then an error by D&E would give Glenville their first point of the set. Davis and Elkins would answer back on a 2-0 run, taking the Senators up (6-1) over the Pioneers. GSC would then mirror D&E as the Pioneers would go on a 2-0 run as well, by a point from a D&E error, and a kill by
Karlei Shaver, bringing the score (6-3). The two would battle back and forth until the Senators took a 7-0 run later in the set taking the score to (16-6). Three errors from D&E would give the Pioneers points to bring them up to 9, making the score (20-9), as Glenville still trailed by 11. Then a kill by
Skylar Mace would contribute to GSC's points for the set. However, D&E would pull away from the set, taking it (25-12).
Set Two:
The Senators would come into the set with a high wave of energy from their claim of the first set, as a kill from Mya Mintschenko would give them their first point, but an error by the Senators would then give Glenville their first point as well. The two would go through a tough battle, but kills from
Skylar Mace,
Sarah Mazzaferro, Sarah Grainger, and
Karlei Shaver, and a service ace from
Kylie Williams would contribute to the Pioneer point count for the set. However, it was not enough to pull away from the Senators, as GSC fell in set two, (25-15).
Set Three:
D&E would also enter the final set of the first game strong as they delivered a 7-0 run to the Pioneers, then a kill by Skyler Mace would give GSC their first point of set three. Errors by Davis and Elkins and kills by
Sarah Mazzaferro,
Jyra Clark-Casto, and
Skylar Mace would give the Pioneers points, but GSC was unable to pull away with a victory from the set, as the set ended, (25-10).
Game Two
Set One:
In the first set of the second game of the day, Davis and Elkins would strike first with a kill by Macie Magallon, but a kill by
Karlei Shaver would give GSC their first point on the set. The two teams would both score two points each before tying at (3-3). But D&E would then go on a 4-0 run against GSC taking the score to (3-7). The Pioneers would fight back, but the Senators would go on multiple runs to take the set (25-15).
Set Two:
In the next set, Davis and Elkins came in strong again to score the first point of set two. But a kill by Sarah Grainger would give the Pioneers their first point to answer back, followed by a point gain from a D&E error. However, the Senators would put up a fight against the Pioneers through the set as they ended up taking the set from GSC (25-17).
Set Three:
In the last set of the day, D&E came in strong, going on an 8-0 run. Glenville State would struggle to get their first point, but a kill from GSC would finally give the Pioneers their first point. GSC would put up a battle, but later in the set D&E would find a 6-0 run, taking the score to (16-5). The Blue and White would try to fight back again but was not strong enough to pull away from the Senators, as they fell in the final set (25-10).

On the day for the Pioneers ended the day with a combined 32 kills, and 189 attacks. In game one,
Skylar Mace led the team with 6 kills, followed by
Karlei Shaver with 4, and
Sarah Mazzaferro with 2.
Sophie Shifferly led in game one in assists with 6, followed by
Jenna Cogar with 3, and
Lindsay Winkler with 1. In game two,
Sarah Mazzaferro led the team in kills with 5, followed by
Skylar Mace with 4, and
