Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State's (6-3, 2-2 MEC) hot bats were not enough against Wheeling University (5-4, 1-1) splitting today's MEC double header. The Pioneers defeated the Cardinals in game one 11-2 then fell 16-2 ending the weekend.

How It Happened
Game One:
To open the first, Mathew Mangum drew a walk and advanced to third on a single to right from
John Peloro. Englund drew another walk before
Tre'von Smith singled to the pitcher scoring Mangum. Phillips then hit a two run RBI doubled to right. Zack Morris then grounded out to second scoring Smith with Devonte Rose following with a sacrifice fly to right scoring Phillips to put the Pioneers up 5-0.
In the second, the Pioneers added four runs with Englund's RBI past the Cardinals and Smiths RBI double to left. From there
Tyler Phillips hit a dong over the left field wall extending the Pioneers lead 9-0.
Wheeling then swiped a run in the third before GSC added two in the bottom half.
John Peloro hit an RBI no-doubter over the leftfield wall to keep the Pioneers 11-2.
In the fourth, Phillips walked as Zack Morris then singled to left. From there
Ryan Rodriguez hit an RBI fielder's choice to extend GSC's lead 12-2.
Joseph Rubacaba pitched the full 7.0 innings giving up just five hits and sitting two Cardinals earning the win on the mound for GSC.
Game Two:
Wheeling in game put the Cardinals on the board first swiping a 1-0 lead in the first.
Shane Talvacchio drew a walk in the second which led to the Pioneers loading the bases with Devonte Rose standing on second and
Ryan Rodriguez at first. However, the Pioneers would not be able to produce.
The Cardinals added two runs to their score before
Tre'von Smith put on a show! In the bottom of the third he hit a deep dinger to left to put Pioneers on the board. Then out in leftfield Smith had a stellar Golden Glove catch then from his knees relaying the ball to toss the Wheeling runner out at third.
In the fourth WU swiped another run extending 4-1. Then in the foot of the inning Peloro doubled to left as Englund singled to center. Smith then scored Peloro to cut the deficit 4-2.
However, from there Wheeling added 12 runs in the next two innings ending the ball game 16-2
Diego Tamariz picked up the loss in the contest after pitching an efficient 5.1 innings giving up just four runs and five hits.
Inside The Box Score
Glenville State collected 11 hits and 14 walks in the double header where as Wheeling totaled 16 hits on the day.
John Peloro and
Tre'von Smith each totaled three hits on the day both hitting homeruns. Peloro knotted two RBIs and scored three runs in his six at bats where as Smith scored four RBIs and three runs.
Tyler Phillips chipped in with two hits including a homerun cashing in four RBIs and four runs in his six at bats.
Mathew Mangum drew three walks as as
Shane Talvacchio hit 1-for-2 while also drawing a walk.

GSC will travel to Notre Dame and Alderson Broaddus next week as they continue to play MEC action.
