How It Happened

Game One:

Zach Morris got the only hit for the Pioneer's in the first with a laser up the middle while the Falcons scored one run off of one hit.

After a noiseless second inning for both opponents, Matthew Mangum got things back into motion for GSC with a single to third base then proceeded to steal second, putting himself in scoring position for the Pioneer's. Morris added to the momentum with a single to right field; Morris's mindful game put him on second from an overthrow on the play as Mangum advanced to third. Adding to the action, John Peloro grounded out to third base scoring Mangum in sacrifice fashion tying the ballgame up 1-1.

The Pioneer's held their own defensively in the bottom of the third while all three batters that stepped up to the plate were handled by the infield.

The Pioneer's were back to business when Tyler Phillips got things started with a walk then Colby Werry pushed Phillips over to second with a hit to left field. Fabian Escalante sent the ball through the right side while Colby Werry advanced to third and Tyler Phillips advanced home. Staying heads up, Werry turned it up to get home putting Glenville ahead of the contest 2-1.

Notre Dame was mute at the plate in the fourth while Glenville just kept putting it on. Peloro took one for the team and got on base by hit by pitch then swiped second for a stolen base, putting himself in scoring position. Duane Engluand executed the drop third strike rule as he reached first on a passed ball. Despite a pitching change for the Falcons, Tre'von Smith smoked a bomb over the left side wall scoring John Peloro and Duane Englund extending the Pioneers lead 5-1.

Glenville continued to do their job defensively in the bottom of the first allowing Notre Dame just one run while forcing two stranded Falcon runners. The Pioneer's struggled to keep the bats going in the sixth as Escalante got the single hit to the left side, but Glenville still held the lead with the score of 5-2.

NDC scored four runs utilized off of GSC's errors in the bottom of the sixth evening the game up 6-6. Notre Dame got a spark started, but it was not enough to put out Glenville's fire.

GSC's Englund started the crucial seventh inning off with great pitch selection as he earned a walk then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Smith stepped up to the plate meaning business firing his second missile over the fence in the game scoring Englund as well. Phillips delivered behind Smith with a fine hit down the right line.

Glenville cleaned up their defense to win the contest for the Pioneer's with the final score of 8-6.

Game Two:

Matthew Mangum got the bats rolling for the Pioneers with a single to the left side as he would continue to swipe two stolen bases landing himself on third. Duane Englund followed behind finding a place on first by getting hit by pitch then Tre'von Smith stepped up to the plate and earned an RBI as Matthew Mangum scored Smith's sacrifice fly to right field.

The Falcons answered with a lone home run in the first and scored one run off of one hit in the second while the Pioneer's bats were quiet.

Mangum got things started for GSC once again in the third with a ticket to first after four balls while Zach Morris would follow, advancing Mangum with a single to center field. The pair of Pioneer's did not advance but GSC's perfect "D" had control making the contest 2-1 NDC after the third.

Smith reached on by an error by NDC's second basemen but was thrown out at in attempts to snag a stolen base while Shane Talvacchio stepped up with a shot to right center as he cranked the gears to second with the lone hit in the fourth inning.

Diego Tamariz hushed the Falcon's bats sitting down three out of the four batters faced to end the fourth holding NDC's 2-1 lead.

The fifth was started with a shot through the left side by Ryan Rodriguez while Matthew Mangum came through with a walk which advanced Rodriguez to second. Morris came up behind Mangum while he reached second on a throwing error by NDC's second baseman. Mangum and Rodriguez turned the heat on during the over-thrown play, both scoring runs for GSC.

Glenville's clean defense held Notre Dame's bat to a one hit, scoreless inning as Glenville held a 3-2 lead.

Escalante had the lone hit in the top of the sixth with a single through the left side but his teammates came through defensively by holding NDC to a hitless and scoreless inning.

Devante Rose kicked the seventh off with a walk while Matthew Mangum came behind with a ground-out to the infield advancing Rose as Rose would go on to steal third base.
