Pioneer’s Split With Falcon’s In Three Run Ball-Games

Glenville, W.Va. – Glenville State Pioneers (9-6, 5-5 MEC) split their double-header with MEC opponent Fairmont State University (5-11, 3-4 MEC).

How It Happened
 
Game One:
 
Matthew Mangum and Duane Englund got the ball rolling for the Pioneer's each drawing a walk and advancing on wild pitches. With runners in scoring position, Tre'von Smith delivered with a double to the right side scoring Mangum and moving Englund to third. Englund was not left stranded as Tyler Phillips hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Englund.
 
After a slow start for the Falcons, they tallied three runs in the top of the third.
 
Glenville retaliated in the fourth with Shane Talvacchio and Colby Werry getting a set of singles. Talvacchio turned the wheels on as he scored on a wild pitch. 
 
GSC kept their momentum up while Zach Morris started the fifth off with a shot to center earning a single and with heads up game advanced to second on FSU's error. Englund and Smith followed behind both getting on first by error. Phillips added to the fire reaching on by an error as well advancing Smith to second and Devante Rose (pinch running for Englund) to third. Talvacchio drew a walk with bases loaded earning an RBI. Werry stepped up to the plate and sent the ball to center field scoring Smith. 
 
Fairmont State and Glenville state each earned two runs in the sixth. Rose found a place on first base by fielder's choice after Morris's hit to the pitcher. Rose would turn it on to swipe second and third base with Phillips following behind hitting one long gone, sealing the ballgame 8-5.
 
Game Two:
 
Fairmont State got three runs on the board quick in the first and added another in the second giving them a 4-0 lead very early in the game.
 
Glenville was not able to answer until the fifth inning. Matthew Mangum got things going for the Pioneer's by drawing a walk as well as stealing second base. Tre'von Smith would follow behind with a single to left field advancing Matthew Mangum to third. Tyler Phillips tattooed the ball to center, landing himself on first and scoring Matthew Mangum making the contest 4-2 after the fifth.
 
In the sixth, Zach Morris and Duane Englund drew a pair of walks while Tre'von Smith reached on by error but the trio did not advance home.
 
Fairmont added just one more run in the top of the seventh while Glenville's final attempt to sweep the double-header was unsuccessful with the final score 5-2, FSU.

Zach Morris, Tre'von Smith, Tyler Phillips each had 2 hits for the day. 
 
Matthew Mangum and Devante Rose each swiped two stolen bases.
 
Matthew Mangum drew three walks. 
 
Adam Riggleman got the win in game one allowing just six hits.
 
Colby Werry went 2-3 on the day also gaining an RBI.
