Greensburg, PA – Glenville State Baseball (2-1) fell to Seton Hill Griffins 11-1 ending their short hot game streak.
Duane Englund and
Tre'von Smith both had a day each totaling three hits as Englund scored the lone run for the Pioneers.
How It Happened
Tyler Phillips cracked open the bats for the Pioneers in the first singling to left field with
Tre'von Smith mimicking Phillips.
Duane Englund then scored Tyler on a double to left gaining the early 1-0 lead.
Then singling to second base in the third inning, Smith would be left stranded before Seton Hill's bench was awakened in the bottom half with a homerun to tie the game at one. The Griffins then went on to score five more runs in the third holding a 6-1 lead over the Blue and White.
Then in the fourth, the Pioneer would have
Zach Morris in scoring position after being hit by a pitch with Mathew Mangum on first picking up a walk as both would be left stranded. SHU added three runs in the bottom half holding a 9-1 lead.
In the seventh, the Griffins added two extending their advantage to 11-1, where as in the eighth Smith singled through the left side with Englund hitting a shot down the left field line. Moving closer to home plate, both stole their next base but again would be left held there.
The ball game would end 11-1 in favor of the Griffins but the Pioneers are set to rematch again April 6 on home turf.
Inside The Box Score
The Pioneers knotted nine hits on the day with three walks scoring just one run where as the Griffins picked up just five hits though totaling nine walks.
Mathew Mangum and
Duane Englund picked a stolen base each with
Tre'von Smith adding two to the Pioneers stat sheet.
Englund knocked a double as Tyler Philips scored GSC's one run.
Diego Tamariz took the loss on the mound for the Blue and White giving up just two hits though allowing four walks in his two pitched innings.
Ronald Sterns allowed just one walk and one hit in his 2.1 innings pitched with
Chase Swain and
Josh Cline holding SHU hitless in their single innings pitched.
Nicholas Shumek also made an appearance on the mound as each Blue and White pitcher tallied one strikeout n the day.
Coming Up
The Pioneers will continue their travel stretch at Bluefield State College on March 17 for a double-header slated for 1:00 and 3:30pm.
