Charleston, W.Va. – The Glenville State Pioneers (13-13, 9-12 MEC) dropped two significant games against the University of Charleston (26-4, 20-2 MEC) as they slowly strip away their running for MEC Play-off Baseball. However, in game two of the double-header the Blue and White was shy of a short comeback setting momentum for their rematch on Sunday.

Game One:
Early in the first, the Pioneers scored two runs as
Colby Werry and
Zach Morris drew walks before
Tre'von Smith tripled to center scoring both. Though UC answered back in the second half of the inning making it 2-1.
The pace of the contest unfortunately changed in the second inning when UC scored five in the second and eight in the third inning.
Mathew Mangum drew a walk in the fourth before the Golden Eagles swiped another three across the plate.
In the sixth, Smith reached on an error with
Levi Fox and Mangum following behind drawing a pair of walks to load the bases. Smith and Fox would then score off two walks from
Ryan Rodriguez and Nathen Curry.
The Pioneers fell 17-4 in game one as
Joseph Rubalcaba picked up the loss on the mound.
Game Two:
The Pioneers would have a significant change in pace in game two. UC put the first run on the board in the second holding a 1-0 lead.
Ryker Rivera in the third hit a long shot ball over the wall to tie the ball game!
Tre'von Smith picked up the Pioneers second hit singling to second base however would be tossed on
Duane Englund's fielders choice.
Rivera then in the fifth, drew a walk and stole second but unfortunately left in scoring position as UC capitalized and scored another run holding a 3-1 lead.
In the Pioneer's final attempt to take game two, Englund and Rivera both drew walks as Christian Davila singled to center scoring one falling 3-2.
Josh Cline pitched a wholesome 5.0 innings giving up just three runs and four walks picking up the loss on the mound.
Jacob Harmon came into relief pitching a shutout inning.

The Pioneers tallied just five hits on the day as the Golden Eagles totaled 19.
Tre'von Smith led the Pioneers in their short offensive attack with three hits, two RBIs and scored a run.
Ryker Rivera drew three walks and hit a homerun. Mathew Mangum drew two walks along with
Luke Petrice,
Levi Fox and
Duane Englund.
Ryan Rodriguez, Nathen Curry and Christian Davila also scored an RBI each.
