Pitchers Duel Heightens Golden Eagles Past Pioneers

Charleston, W.Va. – Dejected emotions hovering over Pioneer Baseball fans in two pitching duel matchups in their final leg in the race to make play off baseball. Unfortunately, the Blue and Whites were swept in their four game series against the University of Charleston (28-4, 22-2 MEC), where the Golden Eagles defeated Glenville State (13-16, 9-15 MEC) in walk off style in game three.

Game One| Glenville 2, Charleston 3
Game Two| Glenville 1, Charleston 6

How It Happened

Game One:

GSC got on the board first as Zach Morris advanced to second off of Tre'von Smith's snagged single after being hit by pitch.

Moving to third off a bock, Morris scored on well delivered sac fly by Duane Englund.

The Pioneer's held flight on the Golden Eagles until the third inning just allowing the crew one run as the score stood at an even 1-1 until the top of the sixth.
Continuing their clutch at bats, Morris and Smith singled and tripled as Morris then scored off Ryker Rivera's fly ball to right, putting GSC ahead 2-1.

Then as many heart breaking ball games end, the Golden Eagles retaliated in full flight scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh, winning with a walk off 3-2.

With an impressive stat sheet, Adam Riggleman took the loss but tossing just a four hit game giving up four walks and shutting down eight Golden Eagles.

Game Two:

UC committed a costly error in the first that led Duane Englund to score on Christian Davila's sacrifice fly.

The Golden Eagle's tallied one run in the third and another three in fourth creating a gap that the Pioneer's could not close.

UC added one final run in the fifth making the final deficit 6-1 University of Charleston.

Diego Tamariz also with well resume gave up just four hits while sliding three strikeouts took the loss on the mound for game two.
