Pioneers Enter Final Stretch of the Season with Senior Day on Saturday

Glenville, W.Va. – After two exciting series wins against Notre Dame College, the Glenville State Pioneers approach their final stretch for the 2021 Season.

The Pioneers earned their first series victory earlier in the week defeating NDC 2-1 in extra innings and 9-1 within six. Glenville State improved to 8-27 overall and 7-19 in conference play. As a program, the Blue and White ere eighth in batting and field within the 12-member conference with a .272 offensive attack and 0.955 fielding percentage.
 
Concord University enters the contest with a 13- 19 overall and 11-13 conference record. CU split with Notre Dame College over the weekend winning 3-2 and falling 4-3. In the Pioneers and Mountain Lion last matchup, the Blue and White dropped game one 5-2 and picked up a 4-5 win.
 
Davis & Elkins are 11-17 in conference and overall as the Senators split with Charleston and dropped a pair to West Virginia State in the past weekend. Earlier in March, the Pioneers forced the Senators into extra innings but resulted 13-11 and 7-2 loss.
 
The Pioneers will host West Virginia Wesleyan at the end of the week as the Blue and White will honor four seniors.  Wesleyan who is 14-10 in conference and overall will face Frostburg and Concord prior to meeting with the Pioneers. The Bobcats recently split with UC and their double header against West Virginia State was postponed. In the Pioneers and Bobcats last meeting, the Pioneers split earning their second victory against West Virginia Wesleyan since joining of the Mountain East Conference.
 
Pioneer Highlights
 
Four Pioneers will be honored in recognition of graduation of Senior Day.
 
Catherine Pelfrey, a four-year member of GSC softball and four-year starter is finishing the season hitting .311 with 28 hits and 11 RBIs.
 
Jessica Williams, native of Scottsville, VA a three-year member of the program is set to graduate in May. This season, Williams tallied 19 hits including three homeruns.
 
Mackenzie Martinelli, also a three-year member from Sacramento, California has maintained an impressive resume throughout her time at GSC. This Season alone, Martinelli hit .394 tallying 43 hits, 24 RBIs including three homeruns.
 
Celina Maberto, a senior out of Galt California and four-year member of Glenville State softball held it down on the mound. Maberto has pitched 165 innings in her career with this season earning a 4-8 record with a 5.50 ERA and 18 strikeouts.
