Glenville, W.Va. – The GSC Pioneer Baseball team kept their MEC Tournament hopes alive on Friday as they split a doubleheader with Concord University.

How It Happened
Game One:
Glenville State (17-18, 13-17 MEC) and Concord (14-20, 13-17 MEC) would go to extra innings tied at 2-2 in a huge MEC matchup with tournament impactions on the line.
After the Mountain Lions took a 2-0 lead the Pioneers tied it up in the bottom of the fourth as
Fabian Escalante singled to right scoring
Ryan Rodriguez and Mathew Mangum.
However, CU would end up on top as they scored three runs in the 10
th inning and the Pioneers couldn't answer in the bottom of the inning falling, 5-2.
Duane Englund went 3-for-5 while
Fabian Escalante went 1-for-4 with two RBI's.
Adam Riggleman pitched eight innings giving up six hits, allowing two runs, with 13 strike outs.
Game Two:
The Pioneers would bounce back in the second game taking it, 5-3 and keeping their MEC Tournament hopes alive.
Glenville State took an early 1-0 lead in the second when
Zach Morris homered to left field.
The Pioneers added three more runs in the fourth when
Tyler Phillips homered to right. Then
Zach Morris reached base on an error while Mathew Mangum and
Duane Englund both crossed the plate.
Concord would make it somewhat close as they added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh but GSC held on to the victory.
Colby Werry went 2-for-4 and scored a run while
Duane Englund went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
Tyler Phillips and
Zach Morris each had a home run in the ballgame while Morris also had three RBI's.
Diego Tamariz pitched six innings giving up one run on six hits with five strike outs.
Inside the Box Score
The Pioneers tallied 14 hits while the Mountain Lions finished the doubleheader with 15.
Duane Englund had a nice two games as he went 5-for-8 with an RBI and scored a run.
Fabian Escalante went 2-for-7 with two RBI's and a homered.
Mathew Mangum scored two runs on the day.
Coming Up
Glenville State will now travel to Concord University this Sunday, May 9 for the final doubleheader of the regular season with a birth in the MEC Tournament on the line. Game one is set for 1pm.
