RIO GRANDE – Glenville's volleyball team battled Rio Grande in an epic opening set Tuesday night, falling to the home-standing Red Storm 31-29. Rio Grande would go on to win the final sets and take the match.
Rio Grande improves to 3-6 with the win, while Glenville falls to 1-4.
Glenville held the lead for much of the first set, as the teams went back and forth. The score was tied on nine different occasions in the frame. Rio scored the final three points to take the set. They won the second set 25-15, and the third 25-19.
Madison Shepherd posted team highs with eight digs and four service aces, with
Sydney Goodrich delivering a team leading 11 kills and added seven digs.
Skylar Mace recorded nine kills of her own.
Sarah Grainger delivered the bulk of the setting for the Pioneers, accumulating 26 assists.
Taylor Goett led in blocks with two.
Glenville begins league play September 28th, traveling to Davis & Elkins for a 7:00 match.
