GLENVILLE – Mountain East Conference Volleyball opened league play on Tuesday night, and the Glenville State team of Coach
Keven John hosted Davis & Elkins in the opener. When the evening closed, the Senators left town with a straight-set victory; 25-18, 25-11, 25-10.
Glenville kept the first set close, holding an early 4-1 lead, and well into the frame, D&E was only up two points at 18-16. The Senators produced a 7-2 surge to close the set and go up 1-0. Glenville also jumped out quickly in the second set, scoring the first two points en route to a 6-3 advantage. D&E answered with a 7-0 run and carried that on for a 25-11 set win. D&E broke out on top in the final set going up 6-4 early, then closing the night with a 19-6 surge.
Karlei Shaver led the Glenville offense with six kills followed by
Skylar Mace with four.
Julia King led with 10 assists, while several player produced strong stat lines with digs,
Sydney Goodrich recording 11, Shaver eight, and
Madison Shepherd seven.
Kiera Ashburn posted a team-high three blocks.
Davis & Elkins improves to 3-7 overall, and 1-0 in the MEC. Glenville falls to 1-5 overall, and 0-1 in the MEC.
Glenville returns to action Friday night, hosting West Virginia State. Play starts at 7:00 at the Waco Center.
