GLENVILLE – Newly minted as the nation's #1 team, Glenville State's Lady Pioneers produced a convincing 91-55 victory over Alderson-Broaddus on Wednesday night in the Waco Center. With the victory, #140 in the career of head coach Kim Stephens, GSC improves to 17-0 overall, and 12-0 in the Mountain East Conference.
A-B held a brief 4-2 lead in the opening minutes, but the Lady Pioneers responded with a 17-0 run to gain a 19-4 advantage late in the quarter. They led 24-8 after the first stanza, and improved the lead to 48-21 at the half. In an almost carbon copy of several games in recent weeks, they were able to cruise the second half with a comfortable lead.
Re'Shawna Stone regained form, posting team-highs with 23 points, seven assists, and five steals. She was complemented in the scoring column by Dazha Congleton with 14 points, and Abby Stoller and Vendela Danielsson with 11 each. The balanced attack also included nine points from Kaylee Pierce, and eight points each from the duo of Tyeshia Taylor and Taychaun Hubbard. Stoller and Congleton each posted team highs of six rebounds.
GSC shot 35-of-74 from the floor for 47.3%. They did not attempt their usual number of three-pointers, connecting on 8-of-24 (33.3%). The Lady Pioneers held a 41-34 advantage in team rebounding, and forced 28 Battler turnovers. These AB miscues led to 40 GSC points off turnovers.
Ny'Shae' Weaver led AB with an impressive double, tallying 22 points and 14 rebounds. The Battlers fall to 7-8 overall, and 5-7 in the league.
Glenville takes their undefeated mark back to the road this weekend, traveling to South Euclid, Ohio to face the Notre Dame Falcons. Tip-off is set for 2:00 on Saturday.
