GSU Women’s Golf Wins First MEC Title

Warren, Ohio - Coach Mike McGarry's Women's Golf program made history today at the Mountain East Conference Women's Golf Championship. The Lady Pioneers are MEC champions for the first time in school history. Glenville defeated the University of Charleston by six strokes. Grace Halcrow, Hailey Hendershott, and Kendall Wall earned All-Tournament team honors.

Grace Halcrow lead the Pioneers on day three with a 77 and shot her best round of the tournament. Halcrow's third round helped propel her inside the top 10 finishing tied for fourth as an individual. Freshman Hailey Hendershott was close behind finishing seven over par. Hendershott finished third as an individual and also improved from day two. Kendall Wall finished the day with an 83 placing her inside the top 10 and tied for fourth with Halcrow. Lizzie Bickar and Holly Elliott wrapped up Glenville's card for day three. Bickar ended the tournament with an 87 followed by Elliot with a 93. Both Lady Pioneers would finish inside the top 15.

The University of Charleston Golden Eagles were able to challenge the Pioneers with incredible performances from Beatrice Dietz and Iciar Canalejo. Dietz and Canalejo both were even par through the first nine holes. Iciar finished the day with 74 along with Beatrice earning them first and second place for the whole tournament.

Davis and Elkins placed third at the MEC Women's Golf Championship with a team score of 1013. The Cardinals of Wheeling University wrapped up the top four of the team leaderboard.
