Glenville, W.Va. - The Lady Pioneers started their weekend road trip with a loss to the West Liberty University Hilltoppers 3-0. Glenville's record falls to (13-9) overall and (2-4) in the Mountain East Conference.
West Liberty would be in complete control during the first two sets leading the entire time. The Hilltoppers jumped to a quick 5-0 lead and did not look back. Towards the end of the frame, West Liberty extended their lead to 14 points. Glenville late in the set put together a 4-1 run. A kill by Helín Halden sparked the Lady Pioneers' streak. However, the Hilltoppers closed out the frame taking the first set 25-11.Â
West Liberty continued where they left off and opened the second stanza on another early run. This time the Hilltoppers would take an early 9-1 lead with a kill by Kaija Sydlowski starting the streak. After a slow start, the Lady Pioneers brought the frame to within four. Two consecutive service aces by
Katarzyna Niderla closed out Glenville's surge. The Hilltoppers would go on to extend their late by eleven giving them the momentum to close out the set 25-16.
The Pioneers started the final frame taking the first two points. Once again West Liberty produced another early run. While Glenville only tailed by five, consecutive small streaks propelled the Hilltoppers to take the final set 25-15.
