Williams Surges Through Power Outage to Lead Pioneers Over Cardinals

Box Score

GLENVILLE – It may well have been the longest game in Glenville State history, but the Pioneers held on for an exciting 96-90 victory over the visiting Wheeling Cardinals. It was the third consecutive home victory for GSC.

Leading 59-50 with 14:58 remaining in the game, a massive power outage in the county led to a long delay in the contest. The two teams would be on hold for almost two and half hours until power was restored.

After the break, the two teams traded punches down the stretch, with the Pioneers holding on for the close win. John Williams Jr. took a major step to sealing the MEC scoring title, erupting for 33 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists…all game highs. He was complemented by Adrian Scarborough with 21, Luke LeRose 18, and Tommy Williams nine.

On the Wheeling side, the duo of Jarrett Haines and Jordan Reid also put on a show, combining for 65 points. Haines scored 35, and Reid 30, as the pair combined to a staggering percentage with 24-of-26 free throws.

GSC was lethal from the field, hitting 33-of-59 (55.9%) for the game. This included 12 three-pointers, led by four bombs from LeRose.

Glenville improves to 9-12 with the win, and 6-11 in the MEC. Wheeling falls to 8-16 overall, and 7-11 in the league.

Coach Justin Caldwell's Pioneers are right back on the road on Monday, traveling to West Virginia State. Tip-off is set for 7:30 in Institute.
