Pioneer Baseball Dominates in 7-0 Victory Over Kutztown

GLENVILLE – Calen Kampes delivered a towering grand slam in the seventh inning Friday night, leading Glenville's baseball team to an impressive 7-0 victory over visiting Kutztown. With the victory, GSU moves to 8-1 on the campaign.

Diego Tamariz provided the Pioneers with another quality start, firing five innings of shutout baseball to record the win. He only gave up three hits, while striking out ten. Tristan Gassett and Nick Moore each provided two innings of shutout relief. The Pioneer pitching staff recorded 15 strikeouts as a unit on the crisp evening.

Glenville snagged an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings. After a Fabian Escalante double in the second, he scored a on Ryan Rodriguez single. Rodriguez got the second RBI as well, singling home Mason Lohr. For the evening, Rodriguez had a career night at the plate, going five-for-five.

This set the stage for Kampes grand slam heroics in the seventh. Kampes had just missed a homer with an earlier double off the wall. The final run came on a Trevon Smith sacrifice fly that scored Yadiel Agosto.

Coach Jimmy Mullins squad is back in action on Saturday, hosting Mercyhurst at 2:30.
