GLENVILLE – Coach Jimmy Mullins and his Pioneer baseball team completed what may have been the strongest weekend in program history, completing a three-game sweep over a trio of teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. On Sunday they rode the starting pitching of freshman Austin Corn, to defeat Millersville 5-0 at the Sue Morris Complex.
On Friday night, GSU defeated Kutztown 7-0 behind a strong start from Diego Tamariz, and a grand slam from Calen Kampes. On Saturday, they defeated the nationally ranked Mercyhurst squad 4-2. And in the finale, they defeated a Millersville program that advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season, and won two games in the Regional. Corn recorded seven shutout innings, allowing only four hits, while striking out seven. Closer Jose Rodriguez provided two innings of shutout relief to preserve the shutout.
GSU scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the fourth, highlighted by a two-RBI single from shortstop Ryan Rodriguez. Rodriguez had a total of eight hits over the three days. Zach Morris added an RBI double to the inning.
Starters Tamariz, Riggleman, and Corn are all now 3-0.
Glenville improves to 10-1 overall for the young season. They remain at home next weekend, playing Lock Haven in a four-game weekend set. There will be doubleheaders both Saturday and Sunday. First pitches will be at 1:00 each day at the Sue Morris Complex.
