GLENVILLE – Coach Jimmy Mullins and his Glenville Baseball team battled Notre Dame College to a doubleheader split on Sunday afternoon at the Sue Morris Complex. GSU erupted for 13 runs in Game One, taking a 13-6 victory, but NDC rebounded to take Game Two 9-6.
Diego Tamariz went five innings in Game One, gaining the decision. He pushed his record to 5-1 with the win. He gave up five hits, four runs, walked four and struck out five. Offensively, the Pioneers scored five runs in the second, three in the third, three in the fourth, and two in the fifth. The team collected nine hits, and was the recipient of nine walks by Falcon pitching.
Fabian Escalante delivered towering two-run homer in the fourth, and was joined by Darius Barton and Yadiel Agosto with two-RBI games. Zach Morris had a two-hit game, while Matthew Mangum walked all four times at the plate, scored three runs and stole two bases.
Notre Dame utilized a five-run third inning in Game Two, ending the 2-2 deadlock and pushing to a 7-2 lead. Glenville fough back with a pair of two-run homers; one from Calen Kampes and one from Chase Swain. GSU starter Adam Riggleman suffered his first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.
Glenville's record stands at 15-5 after the split, and 3-3 in the MEC. Notre Dame stands at 7-14 overall, and also 3-3 in the league.
The Pioneers are back in action Monday afternoon, hosting Alderson Broaddus. First pitch in the doubleheader is 1:00.
