GLENVILLE – Glenville split their Monday afternoon doubleheader with Alderson-Broaddus at the Sue Morris Complex, in Mountain East Conference baseball action. The Battlers captured Game One 8-7, while the Pioneers came back to win Game Two 4-2.
Game One was a back-and-forth affair. Glenville mounted an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but AB bounded ahead 4-2 with a four-run third. Glenville came back with a single run in the third, two in the fourth, and two in the fifth to stake a 7-4 lead. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Battlers closed the scoring with a four-run sixth to complete the comeback victory.
Trevon Smith had two of the five GSU hits in the loss, while Zach Morris produced a two-RBI double.
Julian Minaya helped the Pioneers end the day on positive note, delivering a complete game victory in Game Two. The righthander went the distance, allowing only four hits, two runs, striking out six while not yielding a walk. Christian Davila recorded a two-RBI double, and Morris had another double himself. Ryan Rodriguez registered a two-hit game in the nightcap, as the Pioneers outhit the Battlers 8-4. AB used six pitchers in each contest.
Glenville closes the weekend 16-6 overall and 4-4 in the MEC. Alderson Broaddus falls to 1-16 overall, and 1-5 in the league.
Coach Jimmy Mullins' squad will now hit the road for their next eight games. This swing starts with a doubleheader at Fairmont on Saturday.
