ELKINS – Glenville's baseball team played Davis & Elkins to a doubleheader split Monday afternoon, falling to Senators in Game One 3-2, but rallying to take the nightcap 11-3.
Coach Jimmy Mullins' squad had a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning of Game One, but D&E pulled the comeback victory with single runs in each of the final two innings.
In Game Two, Glenville's Adam Riggleman produced yet another outstanding quality start. The senior right hander, the school's all-time leader in strikeouts, pitched five strong innings, allowing only one earned run, while striking out seven. Riggleman is now 7-1 on the campaign, as he is only two wins shy of the school's single season record, and also the all-time wins record.
Chris Thompson came on to pitch the final two innings.
Offensively, Calen Kampes had four hits and four RBI's, while Hunter Brown had four hits and a pair of RBI's. Zach Morris and Fabian Escalante each had a pair of hits, with Morris delivering a three-run homer. Trevon Smith added a double, as there five extra-base hits in the team's 15-hit barrage. Brown also raced to the first stolen base of his college career.
With the split, Glenville is now 19-9 overall, and 7-7 in the MEC. D&E is now 6-20 overall, and 3-11 in the league. The two teams engage again tomorrow, with Game's Three and Four set in an afternoon doubleheader. First pitch will be at 1:00 at D&E's Harpertown Field.
