Glenville State Baseball Heads Home From WVSU

INSTITUTE – Glenville State's Baseball team traveled to West Virginia State over the weekend, taking one game in the four-game set. The games were played on State's campus at Cal Bailey Field. Glenville took Game One 6-2, with State rallying to take Game Two 4-3. On Sunday, the Yellow Jackets captured both games of the doubleheader; 13-1 and 9-5.

GAME ONE – Nick Moore provided five strong innings of three-hit pitching, and Chase Swain was solid for two innings of relief. Trevon Smith belted a home run, with Fabian Escalante, Mitch Lohr, and Matthew Mangum all recording multi-hit games in the 6-2 Pioneer victory.

GAME TW0 – State scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh for the come from behind 4-3 victory. Adam Riggleman only gave up two earned runs, but suffered only his second loss of the season. Offensively, Colby Werry and Zach Morris each had a pair of hits, with Escalante adding a double.

GAME THREE – State scored seven runs in the bottom of the second to blow open Sunday's first game. Glenville posted five singles on the offensive end, with Mangum driving home the only Pioneer run.

GAME FOUR- Glenville scored three runs in the top of the third to take a 3-2 lead, but could not hold it as State put up four runs in the fifth to retake the lead. Calen Kampes hit a pair of home runs for the Pioneers, and Colby Werry produced a pair of RBI's. Third baseman Hunter Brown added a pair of hits and the other GSU RBI.

Glenville remains in third place in the Southern Division, sitting at 22-12 overall, and 10-10 in the MEC. State is one game back at 17-16 overall, and 9-11 in the league. The Pioneers return to action next Saturday, hosting the league leading University of Charleston.
