GSU Baseball Falls to Frostburg in a Heartbreaking

Beckley- Glenville falls to Frostburg State in the bottom of the ninth 5-6 in a heartbreaking fashion. The Pioneers are still alive in the 2022 MEC Baseball Tournament.

What Happened
The Pioneers opened today's contest on fire with scoring three runs and almost batting through the entire lineup in the first inning. Zach Morris drove in the first run for the Pioneers with a single to centerfield. Fabian Escalante followed up driving in Mitch Lohr off of a fielders choice. Matthew Mangum's single down the third base line scored the last run for Pioneers in the top of the first.

In the next three innings Frostburg was able to cut down Glenville's early lead down to one. A double by Jack Lawrence scored the first run for the Bobcats in the bottom of the first. After pitcher Will Grove allowed the runs in the first Frostburg decided to bring in pitcher Trey Nick. Nick only allowed three hits in five innings for the Bobcats. Later in the contest Ethan Kiple had a solo home run to make It a 3-2 game going into the top of the fourth.

After the third inning the contest turned into a pitchers' duel. Adam Rigglman was able to give the Pioneers seven innings while striking out ten batters and only allowing one walk. Riggleman was able to add another milestone to his historic senior season. During the bottom of the fifth he was able to reach the 100-strikeout mark for the 2022 campaign.
In the top of the seventh Glenville was able to regain a three-run lead to make it 5-2. Calen Kampes smacked a double down the right field line to score two Pioneers. The Hitman Tre'von Smith showed off his speed by scoring from first base.

Entering the bottom of the 8th the Ethan Kiple once again homered, but this time he was able to drive in two runs. Pitcher Jose Rodriguez was brought in to relieve Riggleman. After allowing a single to center field, Jose was able pick off the runner getting the second out of the inning. To end the eight inning Rodriguez struck out Frostburg's AJ Campbell. The Bobcats where able to deliver the final blow off a bunt.
