The Lady Pioneers End Home Stint With a Loss to the Golden Eagles 3-1

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State's Women's Volleyball fell to the University of Charleston Golden Eagles 3-1. As a team, the Pioneers finished the match with five service aces. The Lady Pioneers' record drops to (12-8) overall and (1-3) in the Mountain East Conference. 

In the first set, both squads battled for an early lead. The University of Charleston created separation early leading 6-3, but the Pioneers would catch fire going on a 12-3 run. Sophomore Taylin Johnson and Freshman Nalaina Funk sparked the Lady Pioneers' hot stretch. Charleston continued to test Glenville digging into the six-point lead cutting it down to two points. Both teams continued to push and challenge each other tying the set nine times. After Rita Kelly tied the match at 25-25, the University of Charleston took two consecutive points to win the set.

Glenville opened up the second set on fire taking an 8-2 run. Transfers Katarzyna Niderla and Zoe Schmidt propelled the Pioneers to an early lead. The University of Charleston would take the following two points, but the Lady Pioneers answered again stretching their lead to 18-9. Glenville's Freshman and Transfers once again lead the Pioneers during their dominant stretch. Just like in the first set the Golden Eagles continued to battle. The University of Charleston would tie the frame at 24-24 and eventually took the lead late. Glenville fought past Charleston's late surge taking the frame 28-26 tying the match at 1-1.

Charleston would go on to take the next two sets 25-13 and 25-17. In the third set, the Golden Eagles create an early two-point lead. The University of Charleston after leading 6-5 extended its lead to eight. During this stretch, the Pioneers committed a handful of errors but Charleston also made great plays.  Glenville would cut the lead down to five at 18-13. However, the Golden Eagles closed out the third set taking the next seven points

Once again in the fourth set, the University of Charleston opened with a commanding lead 12-5. With six straight points by the Lady Pioneers stating with Lauryn O'Lenic, Glenville brought the frame back to within one. The Golden Eagles would string together multiple three-point runs to regain their seven-point lead. After regaining the lead Charleston would close out the set winning the match 3-1.

Katarzyna led the team and match in kills with 13 followed by Freshman Rita Kelly with 11. Setter Sarah Grainger produced 39 assists for the Lady Pioneers. Defensively, Lindsay Winkler led the match and the Pioneers in digs with 26. Freshman Nalina Funk finished the match with four blocks.
