1/12/2023 10:50:00 AM

Fairmont, W.Va. - Glenville State's Wrestling team competed in their first Mountian East Conference match since the beginning of the season at the Pioneer Duals. The Pioneers defeated their rivals the Falcons of Fairmont State 38-18 in Wednesday's dual. Coach Cotrell's squad was able to pull away toward the end with four straight pins.

Fairmont State opened the dual with two consecutive forfeits at the 149 and 157 weight classes jumping to an early 12-0 advantage. However, the Pioneers quickly regained the lead throughout the next three weight classes.

Guy Deleonardis earned GSU their first points of the night by defeating Fairmont's Navid Ighani by major decision 15-4. A pair of tech falls by Hunter Delong and Cole Houser put Glenville State up 14-12. With senior Cole Houser's win last night, he improves (5-0) in his last five.

The Falcons would quickly regain the lead with Aydan Edwards pinning Devan Gauldin. With the Pioneers trailing 18-14 GSU once again battled back to take the advantage but this time it would be for good. Starting with Jared Campbell Glenville State rattled off four straight pins picking up 24 points. Campbell a redshirt sophomore from Congress, Ohio was able to defeat his opponent in 27 seconds. Both Devin Easton and Gavin Quiocho battled in their matches pinning their opponent in the latter rounds. Sophomore Ethan Hardy completed the Pioneers' impressive four straight pins. Similar to Easton and Quiocho, Hardy would be tested until the third round. Hardy a native of Charles Town, W.Va. has now won five straight.

The Pioneers will be back in action this weekend at the Virginia Duals.
