Glenville State Wrestling Comes Out on Top at Virginia Duals

1/16/2023 10:08:00 AM

Smithfield, Va. - Glenville State Wrestling had an excellent showing at the Virginia Duals finishing with a (4-0) record and placing first. The Pioneers were able to come out on top dethroning five-time champion Kutztown. With solid performances from Devin Easton, Gavin Quiocho, Ethan Hardy, and Hunter DeLong Glenville State was able to overcome forfeits at the 220 weight class.

Devin Easton got the Pioneers on the board early in every match wrestling at the 125 weight class. Easton a native of Parkersburg, W.Va. finished the event with a (4-0) record. Three of his wins came from pins with two happening in the opening round. In the first-place match against Kutztown Easton was able to pin Julien Maldonado before entering the final round.

Gavin Quiocho would be the second Pioneer to finish the Virginia Duals undefeated. Similarly to Devin Easton, Quiocho finished the day with three pins. Gavin's quickest match of the event came against John Hopkins where he defeated his opponent in the first 40 seconds.

Sophomore Ethan Hardy also finished this weekend with a (4-0) record. While Hardy was able to come out on top twice by pinning his opponent and by technical fall, he would have one of the toughest tests out of GSU's undefeated wrestlers. In the championship match against Kutztown Hardy was able to have the slight edge on his opponent winning by decision 4-2.

Hunter Delong was the final Pioneer to finish the 43rd Virginia Duals with an undefeated record of (4-0). Delong was dominant all day but came in clutch for Glenville State late. In GSU's final two matches of the event, the Parkersburg, W.Va. native produced 11 points for the Pioneers. During the semifinal round, Delong pinned his opponent in the first round and came out on top by tech fall 17-2 in the first place match.

The Pioneers will be back in action on January 19th against the #6 Hilltoppers of West Liberty.
