Both Glenville State Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Place Second at Pioneer Open

Marietta, Ohio - Glenville State Men's and Women's Track Field were competing this weekend at the 2023 Pioneer Open. Both of Coach Meyers's squads finished in second behind Mountain East Conference foe West Virginia Wesleyan.  Glenville State Men's and Women's teams continue to have good showings during the indoor portion of their schedule. 

On the Men's side, the Pioneers shinned during the field events producing 72 points. Travis Hill finished first in the Pole Vault and Long Jump. In the Long Jump alone GSU scored 16 points with senior Otis Cox placing in third.

Both Charlie Bauman and Brandon Bowie placed inside the top three out of a 22-man field in the Shot Put. Bauman finished in second behind Mountian State Throws Andrew White.  Bowie would be close behind Bauman hitting the 13.34-meter mark on his third attempt. 

Glenville State's Men's team also had an excellent showing in the 3000-Meter Run with four Pioneers earning points. Bryce Jarrell placed first in the event defeating West Virginia Wesleyan's Evan Pyles by 15 seconds with a time of 8:58.53. Jarrell's twin brother Blake also placed inside the top three earning GSU six more points. BJ Utt and Tray Stanley wrapped the Pioneers who scored in the 3000-Meter Run. 

Sophomore Koschinya Jefferson had an excellent showing for the Women's team. Jefferson would score 26 of Glenville State's 121.5 points. The Newport News, Va. native placed first in the long jump and finished second in the 55-Meter Dash and Shot Put. Jefferson's second-place finish in the Shot Put helped GSU produce 17 points with Tessa Boyd, Jasmin Brown, and Brianna Browning all scoring. 

Hannah Hill also had a good showing for Glenville State placing in two events. Hill a freshman finished third in the 200-Meter Dash and fourth in the 55-Meter Dash. 

Glenville State Track and Field continue their season this weekend at Youngstown State University.
