Glenville State Track & Field Has Good Showing at Youngstown State

Youngstown, Ohio - Glenville State's Track and Field teams had a superb showing at Youngstown State. In total two school records were broken with one coming from each of Coach Meyers's teams. The Pioneers would also set multiple new personal bests with 20 coming from both squads.

Men's Highlights

To start off the Youngstown State University Invite in the 5,000-meter run Bryce Jarrell broke the school record once again with a time of 15:32.45. Junior BJ Utt and freshman Trey Stanley both set new personal records. 

Christian Hanna in the weight throw had a solid performance with a throw of 13.89 meters. Hanna a Junior from Huntington, W.Va. placed 15th out of a 50-man field. The Pioneers Joshua Landreth also had a good showing placing 28th. Owen Bell would also set a new personal record with a throw of 10.65 meters. 

Glenville State's Isaiah Valentine set two personal records at the YSU invite. Valentine was able to earn his first PR in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.24. Out of the 68-man field the sophomore placed 19th. His second personal record of the day came in the 200-meter dash. Once again Valentine had a solid finish out of 80-plus field placing 21st running a 22.73

Women's Highlights

Once again Koschinya Jefferson had a strong performance for Coach Meyers's women's team. The Newport News, Va. native had a quality showing in the 60-meter dash. In the qualifiers, Jefferson set a new personal record with a time of 8.07. After qualifying for the prelims Koschinya beat her previous PR with an 8.02.

Janel Mitchell broke the school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.02. The freshman also set a new PR while placing 31st out of a 70-plus runner field. Samantha Dawson also set a new personal record running an 2:47.09. Dawson in the one mile had another PR earning her second of the day.

The Pioneers will be back in action at the Youngstown State Mid Major Invite from Friday, January 27th through the 28th.
