Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | GSU Sports Information

Pioneers Split at Concord Tri-Match

ATHENS, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team split in Athens today at the Concord Tri-Match with a loss to Concord 3-0 in the earlier match and a 3-1 win over Bluefield State in the second game of the day. In total, the Pioneers racked up 72 kills over the two games.

Game One vs Concord
The Mountain Lions came out firing in the first set and didn't look back, going up 12-0 before GSU put a point on the board. The Pioneers were able to get their feet back on the ground but it would be too late as CU took the first set 25-16.

Set two saw both squads going on runs with Concord using a 8-0 run to gain a comfortable lead and GSU going on a 7-0 run to climb back into it. The comeback would fall short for the Pioneers 25-20. The third set was much closer throughout, however Concord found their stride late to win it 25-22 and take the clean 3-0 sweep.

Game Two vs Bluefield State
After BSU opened the game with a 25-16 set one victory, the Pioneers changed the tide of match. In set two, Glenville State was able to fend off a late surge by the Big Blue to knot the game up at one with a 25-23 second set victory.

GSU controlled the pace of the third and fourth sets, staying close early on but using a late push in both sets to create separation and win the sets. The Pioneers won both sets three and four by a score of 25-19, winning the game 3-1.

The Final Stats
Katarzyna Niderla led the surge in both games, notching 12 kills against Concord and 15 against Bluefield State. Sydney Goodrich added 19 total kills between the two games. Sarah Grainger almost hit 40 assists against BSU with 39 assists while adding 25 against CU.

Up Next For The Pioneers
The Pioneers continue their busy week with a road contest at Notre Dame College on Friday.
