GLENVILLE, W.Va. - The Glenville Women's Soccer team fell to the Wheeling Cardinals earlier today 2-1 at home. The Pioneers were able to outshoot the Cardinals 14-4 in the loss.
Wheeling found the back of the net first in the opening half at the 16th minute as Mary DiFonzo scored. Merel Smets used a penalty kick to tie the game up at the 33-minute mark after being tripped up near the goal. However, the Cardinals wasted no time taking the lead back as Talynn DeBartolo put in the second goal of the game for WU.
Glenville State applied the pressure in the 2nd Half, setting themselves up for many opportunities. The attack could never muster together another goal as Wheeling escaped with a 2-1 victory.
The Final Stats
Merel Smets scored the lone goal for the Pioneers. Smets and Hannah Hill both had two shots on goal as well. Abigail Morales made one save in the loss.
Mary DiFonzo and Talynn DeBartolo both scored a goal for the Cardinals. Morgan Montani and DeBartolo also recorded an assist. Olivia Kqira corralled five saves.
