GLENVILLE, W.Va. - Glenville State Volleyball is coming off an impressive 3-0 week, sweeping Davis & Elkins, West Virginia Wesleyan and Penn State Fayette cleanly. Now, the Pioneers head into a big week with MEC opponents WV State on Tuesday and Charleston on Friday.

THE OPPONENTS
WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow Jackets enter (12-3. 3-0 MEC) and are riding a 10-game winning streak after starting the season 2-3. Nine of those 10 wins have been 3-0 sweeps.
Hillary Hurley is in her first season as Head Coach of the WV State Volleyball program. Hurley spent last season at Charleston as an assistant coach where the Golden Eagles hosted the MEC Tournament and won an NCAA Tournament match. Prior to coaching, she was a professional volleyball player in Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Italy, Poland and Germany.
Three Yellow Jackets have 100 or more kills, led by Diamond'Nique Young's 164. Jacklyn Simms (135) and Kaitlyn Cabral (113) join Young in the 100+ kill club. Kiersten Eggleton has 410 assists which is good enough for second-best in the league. Alex Darby (222) and Kaitlyn Cabral (101) lead the squad in digs with Darby averaging 4.63 digs per set.
CHARLESTON GOLDEN EAGLES
The Golden Eagles come in (12-6, 2-1 MEC) following a 4-0 week. UC defeated WVWC and Concord 3-0 during the week and went to King University for a tri-match and completed a clean sweep of Young Harris and King.
Tyler Kanelos is in his third season leading the Golden Eagles. Last year, he led Charleston to an historic 33-5 overall record, MEC South Division title, NCAA Tournament birth for the first time since 2007 and won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1998. Before taking over at UC, he was an assistant at Marshall during the 2020-21 season. He was also a volunteer assistant at the University of Dayton for two seasons.
Pia Selke is at the top of the team leaderboard for kills with 188. She is joined by Emma Shepherd (163), Sage Bearnson (134) and Patrycja Majos (103) who have triple-digit kills. Charleston has used a two-setter rotation all year with Susan Agterberg leads with 255 and Maria Hernandez has 230. Defensively, Janna Morrissey has recorded 115 digs and Chloe Fortner sits at 109.
THE PIONEERS

The Pioneers enter the week (7-8, 2-1 MEC) after a big 3-0 week with wins over West Virginia Wesleyan, Davis & Elkins and Penn State Fayette.
Katarzyna Niderla has found her stride in the past two weeks, racking up a team leading 129 kills and 70 blocks. Rita Kelly is up to 103 kills now to unite with Niderla as the only Pioneers with 100 or more kills. Sarah Grainger had another successful week, bringing her assist total to 369 on the year. Lindsay Winkler (160) and Sydney Goodrich (133) are atop the team leaders in digs.
