Pioneers Lose to Salem in Final Game of Atlantic Region Challenge

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Men's Basketball team took their second loss of the new campaign earlier today, falling to Salem 112-10 at the Atlantic Region Challenge in Charleston. The Pioneers were outshot by the Tigers as SU shot 69% from the field and 63% from behind the arc. 

Glenville State fell behind early, trailing 23-9 after the first media timeout. GSU quietly chipped away at the Tiger lead as it was just a 37-33 game at the six-minute mark. After cutting the deficit to three, Salem went on a 12-3 run to close out the half, going up 55-45. 

Though the Pioneers kept it close at the beginning of the second half, the Tigers grew their lead to 86-64 ten minutes in. GSU went on another run, trimming the Tigers lead to eight at the last media timeout of the game. Salem held on to end the game, winning 112-100. 

The Final Stats 
Jay Scott was one of six double-figure scorers for the Pioneers, leading all of them with 24. Dominiq Penn had 21 and both James Franklin and Rye Gadd finished with 15 apiece. Antoine Boyd Jr. added 14 and Trevor Chandler recorded 10 points. Boyd Jr. finished with a near double-double with nine assists. Franklin led the team in rebounding with six.  

Jack Garrison IV led the Tigers with 25 points, accompanied by Ashraf Tchadouwa's 24 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Francois and Ian Hardy added 15 points each as well.  

Up Next For The Pioneers 
Glenville State will be at the Waco Center for the first time this season next Saturday for a matchup with West Virginia State at 4 p.m.
