Volleyball Takes Road Loss at Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Glenville State Volleyball team lost to the University of Charleston 3-1 tonight in the capital city. The Pioneers were able to capture the first set but would drop three consecutive sets.

UC came out strong, starting the first set up 10-3 but GSU went on a run of their own, tying it at 12 all. The squads would trade blows but three consecutive points at the end by the Pioneers allowed Glenville to steal the first set. A big run by Charleston wasn't countered in the second set as UC ran away with it 25-16. The third and fourth sets were dominated by the Golden Eagles, winning the third stanza 25-16 and the final set 25-10.

The Final Stats
Rita Kelly had six kills to lead the Pioneers while Helin Halden and Katarzyna Niderla added five each. Sarah Grainger finished with 21 assists and Sydney Goodrich led the team in digs with 16.

Reagan McLean, Pia Selke and Emma Shepherd all had 10 kills apiece to lead Charleston. Maria Hernandez recorded 25 assists and Abby Avila neared double-digit assists with 9. Defensively, three different Golden Eagles had 10 or more digs.
