GSU Baseball Drops Game Three to Mansfield 13-5

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Baseball completed the three-game series with PSAC foe Mansfield University this Sunday. The Pioneers fell to the Mountaineers 13-5 in today's nine-inning game. While GSU would hit two solo home runs, Mansfield was able to drive in five off the long ball.

In the first three innings, the Pioneers were able to keep up with Mansfield's offensive production. While Jacob Houtz hit a two-run homer in the top of the first, Ryan Rodriguez had the answer. Rodriguez on the first pitch of his at-bat homered to right field cutting the Mountaineer's early advantage down to one.

After Mansfield scored another run off of a wild pitch, starting pitcher Nick Moore produced three consecutive strikeouts to stop the damage.  In the bottom of the second Carlos De Jesus drove in another run for Glenville with his first career home run.

The Mountaineers throughout the next three innings were able to extend their lead making it 6-2. Mansfield's Ryan King did not allow a single run after the two home runs. King would through five and two thirds innings while striking out five.

In back-to-back innings, the Pioneers held Mansfield scoreless. At the top of the sixth Christopher Thompson would be called in from the bullpen. Thompson a native of Seminole, Fla. gave Glenville two solid innings striking out three.

During the final two innings, Mansfield was able to put up six more runs. However, in the bottom of the ninth GSU cut into the Mountaineer's double-digit advantage. Ryan Rodriguez would pick up his second RBI of the day scoring Matthew Mangum in his final at-bat. With the bases loaded a single by Zach Morris drove in two more runs for the Pioneers. While GSU was able to score runs in the final inning, the Pioneers ran out of time to complete the comeback.
