Glenville, W.Va.- Glenville State Men's Basketball is at home in the Waco Center for the last regular season conference home game taking on the University of Charleston Golden Eagles. The Pioneers have already clinched a bid to the 2023 Mountain East Conference Tournament, but Concord and Davis & Elkins sit one game behind GSU. However, Glenville sits one game out of fourth.

When glancing at the series history between the Pioneers and Golden Eagles in the last six games, GSU has fallen to UC five of the six times. Glenville has won against the University of Charleston since the 2020-21 season. While the Pioneers shot 46.9% from the field, the Golden Eagles at the time shot a season high 59.3% from the field. 

 

In their most recent match, the Pioneers dominated over the Bobcats of West Virginia Wesleyan 84-67. Glenville had great accuracy from the field shooting 47.4& from the field. Another major contribution to GSU's win would be Freddie Word being just one assist away from a triple double.  

 

The Pioneers continue have one of the best offenses in the conference and the country. On average Glenville is producing 86.1 points per game which is fourth in the MEC and 12th in the nation. Coach Caldwells's squad has also forced a fair amount of turnovers. Opponents are turning over the ball 15.5 times against the Pioneers. 

 

 

From the last time that the Pioneers and Golden Eagles went head to head, UC has taken some big wins. They won the regular season series against Davis and Elkins, Wheeling University and Alderson Broaddus. These wins helped them secure a spot in the conference tournament as and put themselves in a position to take the #2 or #3 seed in the tournament.  

 

In their last match against AB the Golden Eagles shot 100% from the free throw line going 11-11. UC also racked up 27 rebounds, four offensive and 23 defensive. They also grabbed 16 points in transition off of turnovers.  

 

The University of Charleston is fifth in the Mountain East Conference for their opponent three point field goal percentage holding teams to 34.5%. The Golden Eagles are holding the number one spot for defensive scoring holding opponents to 72.9.
