Pioneer Softball Suffers Close Losses to Slippery Rock and Seton Hill

Glenville, W.Va. - Glenville State Softball wrapped up day two of the MEC/PSAC classic with two close losses. In the first game, the Lady Pioneers fell to Seton Hill 2-1 and 3-1 to Slippery Rock University. Coach Scoone's squad was able to battle against stiff competition. 

Game One

The first game for Lady Pioneers started out as pitchers dual with both teams only combing for five hits in the first five innings. Holly Brehm got the start for Glenville and solid showing. Brehm was able to go six innings while only giving up six hits and picked up five strikeouts. The Senior from Mullens, W.Va. also only had three walks. 

In the top of the sixth inning, Glenville got on the board with an Addison Aguiniga home run to left field. However, at the bottom of the sixth inning, Setton Hill's offense got going. Pitcher Lauren Dellet provided Seton Hill's offense with a single up the middle. Dellet's single was able to drive in two runs putting the Griffins up 2-1.

Glenville entered the top of the seventh with one more chance to regain the lead. The Lady Pioneers would not be able to generate any offense in the seventh.

Game Two

Slippery Rock got on the board early with Cami Fisk scoring Alexsa Hurd in the top of the first. Glenville was able to quickly produce the tying run. At the bottom of the second, the Lady Pioneers got two base runners early with back-to-back walks. After Kaelyn Stenger lined out GSU loaded up the bases taking advantage of another Slippery Rock walk. Senior Ashton Palmer with a single down the line tied it up 1-1.

At the top of the third SRU regained the lead by scoring two runs from singles. The Lady Pioneers were able to get out of the inning with a double play. Madison Thimmes came in at the top of the fourth to relieve Kyle Burdick. Thimmes went four innings for Glenville and only allowed two hits.

With both offenses hitting a cold spell in the final four innings, Slippery Rock held on to win 3-1. Glenville State Softball will be back in action this Friday against Washburn University at the Spring Break Tournament in Florida.
